Immunizations

I chose this health topic because immunization is one of the cost effective ways to prevent health problems in young children.  Working in a childcare setting, I know that children can be exposed to many virus and diseases from other children.  Therefore, it is important that children receive vaccinations before they start early care program to prevent the spread of diseases.  This topic is meaningful to me because several years ago, there was an outbreak of chicken pox at the center.  We later learned that these children had not had their chicken pox vaccinations.  Immunization is a proven method to childhood diseases, and we must make sure children have their vaccinations before entering school.

Unlike other countries, immunizations is not mandatory in Canada.  Some providence require certain vaccination before children attend school.  Most children in Canada are immunized against nine of the diseases under programs offered by the government.  Parents of new born must decide to pay out of pocket for newer vaccines.  Canada has faltered when it comes to providing children with immunization.  Canada is trying to put in place a system that will treat all children, not some, with immunizations to protect them from disease.

  1. I chose this topic as well. I think that it is extremely important for everyone to get their immunization and I think that the cost should be free for everyone in every country. Many lives would be saved if getting immunization was required. Maybe government can come up with a law that says everychild must get their immunization and if they do not get it there would be fines and penalties to pay. This is just me giving my view and wishful thinking to protect our children.

  2. Immunizations, a topic that often causes controversy. In the United States immunizations are required for entry into school. My school district provides a grace period for children to obtain all necessary immunizations. If the immunizations are not obtained after the extension period, children are suspended from school. Parents who cannot afford immunizations are able to obtain them through Medicaid.

Some individuals do not immunize their children for religious reasons. Others feel as though their is a link between immunizations and other health problems. Do you feel as though Canada has taken this into account or do feel there are other underlying factors?

  3. Dedri,

I feel that Canada knows that immunization is important for the well being of all children, not for some of the children. Canada is know trying to implement programs that will make immunizations mandadorty for children in the country.
